Welcome to Kateb Youth & Community Society
Arriving in a new country as a young person is hard. New language, new school, new everything — and often, nowhere to just be a kid.
Kateb Youth and Community Society was founded by community members who lived that experience themselves. We began as a small group of volunteers organizing weekly futsal games for immigrant youth in Metro Vancouver, built on a simple idea: give young newcomers a place to play, and community follows.
What we do
We're a registered BC non-profit society working across five areas: settlement support for youth and families finding their footing; education and mentorship with volunteers who navigated the same journey; culture and community events that keep families rooted and connected; youth leadership that turns participants into organizers; and sport and recreation — including the weekly futsal sessions where it all began.
Where we're going
Sport opened the door, but belonging is the whole house. Over the next year we're growing our mentorship network, launching the first youth leadership cohort, hosting community events, and building partnerships with settlement agencies, schools, and community organizations across Metro Vancouver.
If you're a family looking for a program, a volunteer with two free hours a week, or a business that believes every kid deserves a team — we'd love to hear from you.
